Job Title: Maintenance Technician Job Description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and modification of electrical systems related to terminal operations. This role ensures compliance with company procedures and safety practices.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and service electrical equipment and systems, diagnosing and repairing failures on cranes, mobile equipment, conveyor systems, generators, lighting, and associated equipment.
  • Test electrical systems using devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters to verify continuity, voltages, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) when needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and testing to verify the condition of components like electrical motors and generators, both AC and DC.
  • Train and develop safety standard procedures (SSP) on the safe operation of electrical equipment.
  • Implement improvements and modifications as required and approved.
  • Develop and order material lists for projects as approved, and maintain records.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient workplace, completing appropriate documentation of maintenance and repairs and entering it into the database as required.
  • Assist the maintenance team with repairs as needed.
  • Attend all required safety meetings and training.
  • Oversee third-party contractors to ensure quality and compliance.
Essential Skills
  • Electrical experience, including reading diagrams, schematics, and drawings.
  • Ability to install 480V 3-phase systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
  • Experience with industrial automation.
  • Ability to read and develop electrical schematics.
  • Working knowledge of high voltage electrical systems, instrumentation, and control devices.
  • Experience in AC/DC motor controls, VFD drives, soft starts, and some PLC experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two-year degree in electrical field or 5 years equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to use formulas for planning installations from the ground up, including motors, starters, wire gauge, transformers, and motor controls.
  • Ability to run conduit and 110/220 services in industrial applications.
  • Proficiency with power and hand tools and all meters and measuring equipment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read and understand written directions.

Work Environment

The work environment is terminal/warehouse/industrial, requiring willingness to work in all weather conditions, indoors and outdoors throughout the year. Must be available for overtime as required, including nights and weekends, and be on call 24/7 as needed.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of CHESAPEAKE, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
